In Season 2016/17 the BCA took on a different Coaching structure for Junior representative cricket and incorporated an U21 component to our Senior representative cricket. The aim was to create a structure that provides over-arching support to the Coaches and players who become part of the program. This page outlines the processes and programs that Ballarat Cricket has in place for it;s representative teams.
Junior Representative Cricket
A High Performance Pre-Season program was created for Junior players, nominated by their Clubs, who have showed that little bit extra to be a part of. It was a huge success with many happy kids gaining some extra insight from highly qualified Coaches, elite Senior players from State and International level as well as some quality local people who have gone onto bigger and better things like East Ballarat Cricket Club's Matt Short and Blake Thomson.
Adrian Harris was appointed as the BCA Junior Representative Head Coach, with Liam Rigby, Adam Eddy and Brendan Everard his Assistants. They led the new look program from start to finish with a high level of professionalism gaining the results from a winning perspective, achieving a clean sweep of the U13, U15 & U17 competitions. The BCA Board were extremely impressed with their dedication to the program and attitude towards creating an environment for our kids to grow and learn. All involved thank them for their efforts and hope to continue again into the future.
The structure overview is below.
The High Performance Pre-Season training program is a 4 week program consisting of intensive coaching and training lead by Adrian Harris, his Assistant Coaches and with special appearances from some elite talent and high level Coaches as well. Participants will be invited to take part in the program when dates are finalised. Positions within the program are limited and given the demand for such a program those identified will be given first preference, with a 2nd round of intake if positions are still available.
Cost for each participant in the program is $80. Code of Conduct by all participants must be followed
BCA Junior Representative squads will be selected from a combination of elements but not limited to:
- Attendance and performances at the Pre-Season program (attendance does not guarantee selection)
- Performances in previous seasons (selection in previous season does not guarantee selection)
- Performances in current season
- Attitude, work ethic and adherence to the spirit of cricket
If selected in a squad, participants will be invoiced a further $70 and upon payment presented a BCA training shirt, training shorts and playing cap to keep. This payment partly covers costs of the merchandise each participant gets to keep, plus the equipment supplied for training and playing shirts for match days. We are currently working hard to gain sponsorship for the program to reduce the costs involved for participants and their families, so if you know someone who may be interested please get them to contact us.
Our U12, U13, U14 & U15 teams follow the same fixtures/playing dates throughout the season, culminating in the Intersport Junior Country Week tournament.
Our U16 & U17 teams have a separate fixture and compete in the Regional Kirton Shield competition.
All fixtures and dates are available HERE

Senior Representative Cricket
The Ballarat Cricket Association is part of several regional Association competitions. We have representation in:
Central Highlands Kenmac Shield - Division 2
In season 2016/17 the BCA took a new direction and used this team to give our best U21 players a chance to compete at representative level. Once to old for U17's, the next representative level for the BCA is our Senior team so bridge the gap we will be using this team to give the next crop a chance to showcase their skills.
Central Highlands Kenmac Shield - Division 1
This team is comprised of our best Senior cricketers and is traditionally used in a selection process for the VCCL Country Week team. A selection Committee is formed each year to consider past and current performances to then select a squad of around 30 players for consideration. All currently registered BCA players are eligible for selection.
VCCL Country Week - Provincial Division
Our Country Week team is the best of the best in the BCA. We compete in the VCCL Country Week tournament in late Jan/Early Feb each year in our quest to be the best regional Cricket Association in the state. In season 2015/16 we won the Division 2 title and propelled ourselves back into Provincial Division. Season 2016/17 saw the team come agonisingly close to making the final only to fall 2 wickets short. Season 2017/18 will see us continue to strive for the ultimate success and the chance to show the rest of the state how strong our Association is.
